Smart Choices Texas offers evidence-based High-impact tutoring for 1st-12th grade students. We use an innovative digital learning platform via Saga that may lead to even better student outcomes than traditional models using only professional teachers. Our tutors are well-trained and use a high-quality curricula aligned with academic standards, often exceeding guidelines. Saga meets all national evidenced-based standards required by the Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and is approved for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) and other Federal (Title) funds.

Our professional Live-online tutors give personalized attention to students, meeting their individual needs. The same tutor follows each student throughout the school year to build consistent relationships, and to foster regular communication and coordination between teachers, tutors, and school leaders. Our students feel well supported and actually enjoy their tutoring sessions.

WE SUPPORT OUR AT-RISK AND UNSHELTERED STUDENTS

There is significant need for academic support services for at-risk youth in Texas, where the average age of unsheltered youth is just 7 years old. Keeping in-line with our organizations mission we educate and help our youth acquire the skills to succeed in school and throughout their lives. This is achieved through academic tutoring, financial literacy, mentorship, individual/group/family counseling, and summer enrichment activities. We also work with their families to support housing needs and refer to other community organizations as needed.

Students are referred to our program from school principals, teachers, school counselors, truancy officers, social workers, guardians and parents. An alarming portion of the students are living in homeless shelters, motels, cars, group foster homes, abandoned buildings, and sometimes on the actual street.
